Medical institutions often face the problem of inefficient coordination of care.
This is frequently due to a lack of convenient and reliable methods for information exchange. This complicates the ability to see the full picture of a patient's health and prescribe them a more optimal care and treatment course. Global pandemics have highlighted the importance of continuous innovative development in the health sector to create more accurate and efficient healthcare systems. The forecasts of analytical companies regarding the growth of the market for the exchange of medical information at an average of 10% over the next 5 years only confirm these conclusions.
A company from the USA turned to us to develop mobile and web applications to develop its platform in the field of Health Information Exchange. The main purpose of these applications is to provide patients with the ability to monitor and share their medical data. Medical specialists will be allowed to receive overview information about all their patients, including data on the condition of vital organs, ongoing events, current patient’s state, and other information. Also, medical workers will have the opportunity, if necessary, to contact a patient and other team members who are currently monitoring a patient's health. Applications should take into account all the needs of specialists, patients, and their relatives.

The project aimed at developing a platform that solves the problem of interaction between patients and medical personnel of one or more medical institutions.
The main goal of this project is to provide patients with the opportunity to monitor their medical data and exchange it with the medical staff of one or more medical institutions. Another task is to provide an opportunity for medical specialists to receive general information about all their patients, including data on the condition of vital organs, ongoing events, current patient’s state, and other information.
We implemented a system that ensures the separation of patient’s data into different levels of medical personnel competence. This is done by setting up data privacy, which can be changed by either a doctor or a patient. Also, the system administrator can manage settings for various groups of medical personnel, which provides stricter and more structured control over access to data. For additional application and data security, we implemented two-factor authentication.
For users’ convenience, we divided the patient application into two main modules — health information and functions of managing a team of specialists working to improve a patient’s condition and quality of life. In the health module, a patient can view:
- diagnoses;
- vital organs indices (including height, weight, SpO2, temperature, respiration, etc.);
- allergic history;
- medications used;
- immunization data;
- caregivers;
- documents.
In the module of managing a team of specialists working on improving condition and life quality, a patient and medical staff can view group members and invite new ones. Before this, a patient is to consent to joining a new participant and to give access to his/her data to ensure confidentiality and compliance with security standards.
Medical staff also have access to data and events concerning patients, such as:
- patient’s administrative data;
- ambulance visits data;
- adverse drug reaction;
- accidents requiring treatment;
- signs of depression etc.
The application has the developed functionality for communicating with other team members, making calls, having video chats, and sending safe messages.
We also took into account the possibility of synchronization with sensors in case they are used as part of a treatment program to monitor patients’ health. Sensors collect data and transmit it to a mobile phone, which automatically uploads it to the server. This integration makes it possible to transmit information about a patient’s geographical, medical indices, and health state data in real time. The data is analyzed and visualized into convenient graphs, providing all the team members with instant access to the necessary information for observation and decision-making.
Confidentiality and data security are of paramount importance in this area. For this reason, the system actively controls access: only authorized users get access to certain patient information after passing two-factor authentication. Important data and communications are stored on dedicated confidential servers, access to which is strictly limited and secured with encryption. Physical access to the infrastructure of the platform hosting is allowed only to authorized users.
The main goal of this project is to provide patients with the opportunity to monitor their medical data, exchange it with the medical staff of one or more medical institutions, and provide medical specialists with general information about all their patients.
The market for which our client was creating their product has significant governmental support and investments from the government and individuals, which contribute to its dynamic development. However, privacy and security issues, huge initial investments, and their slow payback significantly complicate the process of creating innovative solutions. In addition, it was necessary to solve the complexity of compliance with numerous laws and regulations, including other state and federal regulations related to the exchange of medical information.
To overcome these obstacles, our client was looking for a partner who would have the necessary knowledge and experience of working with clients in the American market. They expected non-standard solutions from a development team that took into account data security requirements.
We held a number of meetings to fully understand the client’s expectations and goals. Confidence in the abilities of our team allowed us to guarantee the client the successful implementation of their project by the deadline.

For the successful implementation of this project, our team relied on a key factor — its members’ experience and knowledge in the field of development. We quickly formed a team of experts whose competence had already been confirmed by previous projects. Our team consisted of a Team Lead, Full Stack Developers, a Senior Java Developer, a Mobile Developer, Quality Assurance specialists and a UI/UX Designer. This allowed us to solve the project tasks efficiently and quickly, based on each participant’s rich experience.


To develop the Front-End part of the application, we used React; for the Back-End, we used Java, and PostgreSQL as a database. For the mobile version of the app, we used React Native. These technologies allowed us to significantly speed up the process of application development and testing, create a reliable product, and reduce overall project costs.
For this project, we chose the Scrum development methodology, which allowed us to implement a structured approach to managing the development process. This option not only enabled us to be more flexible in responding to customer requirements but also improved transparency in work and communication within the team.
In this project, we acted as a technical developer, having experience working with the US market and expertise in the development of platforms and mobile applications. We took over the task of developing non-standard solutions that take into account high safety standards and regulations that are in force in the US medical field. It is only due to the joint work of the client's teams and our developers that we created the opportunity to launch a new product and achieve set business goals in the complex and regulated healthcare sector.

Aionys, together with the client's team, implemented mobile and web applications to develop its platform in the field of Health Information Exchange and improve control over medical data. We created convenient and secure applications that allow patients to monitor their health and share data with the medical staff of one or more medical institutions. Also, medical specialists got the opportunity to access information about their patients, which ensured more effective interaction. Our team successfully coped with the task and developed a solution for the client that combines functionality and security at the highest level in the complex and regulated healthcare sector.

- A reliable system of users’ authentication and authorization with the right to access confidential clients’ data to ensure the information security has been implemented.
- The client received a reliable and efficient solution for the effective exchange of medical information between institutions and specialists in accordance with the high safety standards and regulations in force in the US medical sector.
